Schools helping young people prepare for their future

Project Ready is a full-year VET program in job skills and personal development. Our collaborative, trauma-informed approach engages young people in preparing for their future, to work confidently with people and projects.

Developed in 2017, Project Ready features a community project, guest speakers and site visits to support Year 10 to 12 students across Victoria doing their VPC, VCE Vocational Major or VCE (gaining 2 credits).

The program includes CHC24015 Certificate II in Active Volunteering.
Educators receive ready-to-use learning resources, a practical induction and ongoing support from the Project Ready team at CRLLEN, auspiced by our RTO, Access Skills Training.

  • Builds a safer group space so students can feel free to share and personally develop
  • Facilitators are trained in our welcoming, trauma-informed approach, helping students discover their unique skills, strengths and passions to plan for their career
  • Builds self-worth and resilience through personal development activities, volunteering and community involvement
  • Explores possible training and work pathways through career development and industry
    engagement activities, with a range of guest speakers and site visits
  • Develops communication skills, including use of workplace messaging formats
  • Increases understanding of how to work effectively with a diverse range of people
  • Builds work readiness skills, such as the job application process
  • Establishes awareness of safety rights and responsibilities

Project Ready is for Year 10 to 12 students and is well-positioned to prepare for the VCE Vocational Major.
Students must turn 15 years by 27 April in the year they are undertaking the course in order to participate.

You may wish to run an information event or taster session to encourage enrolments. The Project Ready team can help with resources and presenting. Get in touch with our friendly team to find out more.

  • Project Ready spans the school year, preferably one school day per week.
  • Delivery time includes 20+ hours for student volunteering/community project (can count as SWL)
  • Many of our special needs groups have elected to deliver the program over two years

We recommend you deliver the program as a full school day session each week, on your school’s VET day. This allows for the most effective relationship-building and support, and increases opportunities for guest speakers, industry visits and the community project.

Community project/Volunteering hours (Structured Workplace Learning), workshops and excursions may require students to take additional time away from school.

Operational & Funding Models

There are two ways Project Ready can be delivered in your school:

  • Your staff member needs to have either their Cert IV TAE or a recognised skills set of TAE Units of Competence.
  • A facilitator’s manual (with a complete set of written curriculum for every unit of competency), student workbooks and ongoing professional  development and trainer support are provided by Central Ranges LLEN.
  • All other program costs are paid for by the school.
  • Both government schools and Catholic schools receive VET band funding per enrolled student.
  • Your LLEN supports the organisation of guest speakers, SWL, the community project and industry tours.
  • Fees paid to CRLLEN and also directly to AST: For information on fees paid to CRLLEN and to AST, our RTO please email Project Ready Manager Janoel Liddy
  • The program is delivered off school grounds by an accredited Project Ready facilitator with TAE qualifications, employed by your LLEN.
  • The VET CHC24015 Certificate II in Active Volunteering is auspiced by AST (TOID 4603)
  • Volunteer adult mentors and TAFE/university placement students are sourced by your LLEN to support the program. 
  • All program costs, including excursions,  are paid for by the LLEN.
  • Government schools and Catholic Schools receive VET band funding per student. See DE VET band funding information for details.
  • Agreements with Project Ready (CRLLEN) and AST must be signed by 31 October for delivery the following year.
  • Inclusive education groups attract slightly higher fees.

PROJECT READY WORKS

In 2019, CRLLEN engaged LaTrobe University to independently evaluate Project Ready against its objectives. The research confirmed that the program is effective in achieving its aims.

Supporting Our Educators

Facilitator Accreditation Requirements

Project Ready facilitators must meet the following professional standards:

Training Qualifications

  • Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or TAE40122), OR
  • For school teachers: relevant skill-set recognised by AST, our Registered Training Organisation

Vocational Competency

  • Demonstrated competency across all units in CHC24015 Certificate II in Active Volunteering
  • Most adult professionals can easily meet these requirements, and our team provides guidance throughout the accreditation process

Professional Development & Ongoing Support

Comprehensive Induction Program Our experienced team delivers hands-on induction covering our educational approach, course materials, and effective delivery methods. This foundation is supported by continuous, responsive assistance with curriculum questions, assessment guidance, and any educational challenges that arise.

Peer Learning Community Every term, we host two 1-hour Peer Learning Circles where Project Ready educators come together as a professional community. These sessions provide opportunities to celebrate successes, collaborate on delivery challenges, and share effective practices.

Additional Training Resources Access to specialised webinars and recorded training sessions covering diverse topics relevant to program delivery and student engagement.

Volunteer Mentor Program

One of Project Ready’s distinctive features is our integration of community volunteer mentors, including local professionals and university placement students. Each volunteer receives comprehensive preparation through:

  • Welcome Pack with program overview and expectations
  • Detailed position description outlining their role
  • Online induction module ensuring they’re equipped to effectively support their assigned student groups

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Workplace Excursions Schools arrange and fund excursions that provide students with real-world exposure to various career pathways and workplace environments.

Community Connections Your Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) serves as a valuable resource for coordinating guest speakers and facilitating connections with local employers for workplace visits and learning opportunities.

2025 FLYER

The CHC24015 Certificate II in Active Volunteering component of Project Ready is delivered via Access Skills Training – TOID 4063. 

Students are enrolled in a Certificate II in Active Volunteering and receive their certification via AST.
